Canva Pro Reviews

Canva is a Graphic Design platform for Creating social media graphics, presentations, posters, documents, and other visual content. And it is free for everyone which is used by millions of people around the world.

Then, is there any point in buying the Pro version (aka “Canva for Work” or “Canva Pro”)?

After reading this review, you’ll know what to expect from Canva Pro. In particular, you will get the answer of these popular questions:

  • WHAT’S THE BIGGEST ADVANTAGE OF Pro?
  • HOW MUCH FOR Canva Pro?
  • HOW DOES IT COMPARE to alternatives?
  • SHOULD YOU UPGRADE Canva to Canva Pro?

Before knowing the differences between Canva and Canva Pro, let’s take a quick look at what we are going to cover:

What is Canva? Overview

Basically, Canva is an online platform that simplifies the process of designing any type of visual material in a few main categories:

  • Social media: This is definitely the most used template category on Canva – all for your Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Pinterest accounts, including a wide variety of graphics for posts (like thumbnails) and profiles (like background images).
  • Identity: While not a logo creation tool, Canva offers a tool to quickly create a brand logo, with thousands of finished images you can use as a starting point.
  • Business: This category includes presentations, invoices, proposals, certificates, resumes, and many other useful templates for all business purposes.
  • Information: Canva simplifies the process of creating professional-looking posters and infographics. The templates help you organize your message and present your data in a clear, easy-to-understand format.
  • Printable: In addition to digital images, there are ready-to-use templates for physical things, such as invitations, flyers, brochures, menus, and more. The best part? You can order printed materials from Canva and have your items at your doorstep within a week!
  • Everyday: Canva is also useful outside of the office. For example, when you want to create beautiful designs for yourself and those closest to you – calendars, postcards, and photo collages.

And yes, all of that is available in Canva’s free version. So what’s the point of paying for Canva Pro?

Canva Pro vs Canva Free

Canva Pro is the premium, subscription-based service of this platform, oriented to those who use Canva for work and need a more powerful solution for visual content creation: businesses, teams, non-profits, educational entities, etc. Of course, it’s available for individuals as well.

When designing with Canva, you may notice that there are several templates covered with diagonal lines –

To get rid of the lines, you need to select the image and click the “ remove watermark ” button in the bottom right corner:

A window will pop up showing you the prices for those premium images… and we come to the first key part of Canva Pro’s offering:

  • For a fixed monthly fee, Canva Pro gives you access to a complete collection of 60+ million premium images at no additional cost, either in templates or as separate images.

If you use Canva a lot, this option is probably cheaper (and less hassle) than paying every time you need to remove a watermark.

Of course, this isn’t the only feature of Canva Pro – it’s just that it stands out the most.

What about other benefits? The first,

  • Apart from images, the Pro version unlocks all the other premium design components , including illustrations, icons, backgrounds, music and videos.

This feature is very useful, but not unique. So, what really makes Canva Pro increase your productivity? Branding features!

  • With the Brand Kit, you can set your company logo, color, and font in a single space – so that it can be used automatically for any new designs you create:

This is especially helpful if you regularly create branding posts for one or more social channels – especially for all the types of designs we described earlier in this guide.

Unlimited folders (maximum 2 folders for free version) and 100x more storage space (1Gb for free version) make Canva Brand Kit even more flexible.

Finally, there is a third feature set in Canva Pro that we can call a “magic wand” –

  • Its premium editing tool automatically animates and resizes your images, as well as generates PNG images with transparent backgrounds.

Okay, let’s sum up –

Canva Pro offers 3 feature sets that can be broadly categorized into components of premium design, increased productivity and advanced tools.

Most of the features are useful (and some are outstanding). But, before we can conclude whether Canva Pro is worth buying or not, we must also look at another factor –

How Much Does Canva Pro Cost?

You can upgrade to Pro for the US $ 12.95 per month (or the US $ 119.4 per year, which is equivalent to the US $ 9.95 per month for annual bills).

Canva offers a 30-day trial. However, you must enter your credit card details, even though you won’t be charged before your free month runs out :

Compared to other similar alternatives, Canva offers the longest trial period. Plus, they offer the cheapest monthly fees (we put all the prices in US $ to make it easier to compare):

ToolPricingTemplatesPhotosBrand kitFree trial
Canva$12.9560000+60Myes30 days
PicMonkey$12.992400+1Myes7 days

Fotor$8.9910000+no
FotoJet$6.99800+1Mno7 days

– some new tools that clearly mimic Canva’s features, even the interface 🐒

Even though we show them in the comparison table, they just can’t match Canva Pro.

Actually, the first 3 competitors were also not as good and great as Canva for several reasons:

  • The collection is smaller because the choice of templates, images, videos, and other design components is limited;
  • Fewer features, especially no clear brand kit and no productivity-enhancing tools like automatic animator;
  • The focus is narrower because it is generally used for photo editing or social media posts, not complete design and collaboration for brands across multiple channels.

So, the answer to our original question is pretty straightforward – here’s the summary:

Should You Use Canva Pro?

Instead of simply saying “yes”, in this guide, we’ve tried to compare Canva Pro with its free version and several similar alternatives.

Here is what we can conclude:

Canva Pro offers a significant productivity increase compared to the free version. Plus, it’s a huge collection of premium design components, with a 30-day free trial . This makes Canva Pro the most attractive choice by far compared to other similar tools.

However, the final decision to upgrade to Canva Pro still depends on your specific needs:

  • If you only need a design once, of course, you don’t need to buy a paid subscription. However, you can get a wider selection of images and templates with the free trial. Don’t forget to cancel the subscription on time!
  • For simple designs and/or rarely used on one social media, the Pro version is too much, as the basic Canva toolkit already offers almost everything you need.
  • If you regularly design branding (for example, you are a professional designer, social media manager, or small business owner), Canva Pro will save you a LOT of time and effort. Maybe even cheaper than buying the premium images separately.
  • For those of you who manage multiple social media simultaneously (such as Facebook pages, Instagram accounts, and YouTube channels), the Pro version is a must buy. Its auto-resizer alone can cut your design time by half 🚀
  • If you work in a team (such as a marketing agency, design collective, or marketing department at a large company), Canva Pro may be too simple. We recommend trying Canva Enterprise which offers additional collaboration tools and dedicated support.

If our guide still doesn’t help, the easiest way is to try it yourself. There’s nothing to lose in trying because it’s free, and you can decide if this tool is worth buying or not:
